With thousands of readers each month, we get many emails from people asking if we accept guest posts.  The short answer is: Yes! We love featuring guest posts! But with increased interest comes more questions and stricter guidelines.  So we figured it’s best to lay out all the information for our readers and potential writers right here.

After reading our guidelines, if you are more determined than ever to submit a guest post (and we hope you are), please pitch your idea to our Community Manager, Julie.

Below you will find all the details, Q&A style, intended to guide you through this process with the goal of making this easier for all of us. 

What kind of content do you accept?

We’re happy to accept anything that is useful to our readers.  Remember, WetFeet is a career resource website for college students, recent grads, and professionals.  Our aim is to help and educate people all throughout their careers.  This leaves a lot of legroom to write about many different topics for a variety of audiences. Writing on a recent news topic is cool too.  Just make sure you take a unique angle.

What are some popular topics?

Should I pitch my idea before writing the post?

Yes, please pitch to us first.  We do not want you taking the trouble to write something up before we’ve approved your idea.   If this is your first time pitching to us or you’re a newbie writer, please include one or two links to writing samples so we feel confident you’ll be able to execute your idea.

What is WetFeet’s Style?

We like our blog simple, fun, and full of spirit.  Hey, it’s a tough world and the job market is rough, so we try to keep things uplifting and upbeat.  Here are a few pointers to keep in mind when writing:

  • Keep titles short and sweet
  • Keep it blog-style.  Blog readers like flow so paragraphs should be short.
  • Don’t be boring.  We like and welcome creativity!
  • Try to keep away from too much first person POV
  • Include relevant links that will be helpful to the reader
  • Please use only one space in between sentences

How long should posts be?

Please keep it around 600 words.  We will be forced to shorten it if goes on too long.

Will you edit my post?

Depends on how well you write it.  We will make the necessary edits to ensure clarity and length limitations.

What do writers get?

Unfortunately we are not in a position to pay contributors but we can offer a byline and a short bio (with a link) at the bottom of the post. We work hard to share these posts across the Web, which helps get visibility for both you and us.

In addition to being published on our blog, every week we add new blog posts to our newsletter that goes out to thousands of subscribers and hundreds of career centers around the country.

What should my bio say?

A sentence or two about you, plus a link your website, Twitter handle, LinkedIn profile or wherever you want to send readers. Please send us your bio with your post and keep it between 1-3 sentences.

How should I submit my post?

Please submit it as a Word document (.doc please, NOT .docx).
